A Mischievous Boy!

Woody was being naughty during his free range time! The story goes something like this...
As usual, Woody was very happy when it was his turn to explore the rat room. As soon as I set him on the floor, he began hopping around like a little bunny. ;-) After about fifteen minutes of playtime, I decided it was time for Woody to return to his cage. Well, I had a problem. The little ratty was nowhere to be found! I searched for a bit and then decided to wait until he came out of hiding. That's when I heard a suspicious scratching noise...

After investigating, I discovered he was in an empty cereal box feasting on the few remaining crumbs! I think he was pretty proud of himself. Rats are always full of surprises...

Baby Update

Maria's babies have been growing unbelievably fast! They are fully weaned now. It is so funny to watch them eat ratty food. Those rat blocks look so big in their tiny 'hands'. ;-) All the babies have been enjoying their time with the adults,  but the little guys seem to like it more than the rest! The big boys have been teaching them to behave.
Due to personal matters, a couple people decided not to adopt the babies they reserved. So, there are a few munchkins available for adoption. They are very sweet rats!

Nutmeg Will Be A Mama Soon!

Another litter is on the way! As usual, I am excited. ;-) These little munchkins should arrive in the first week of July. All of them will have Dumbo ears.
Just so people are aware, there are still some open spots on my waiting list! If you are wanting to adopt a furry friend or two, feel free to contact me.

Baby Ratties!

I know of a woman named Amanda who is trying to find homes for some male ratties. They are about eight weeks old. I have not met them personally, but I have seen pictures. :-) She has black and Beige Hooded and a couple Pink Eyed Whites.
Let me tell you a little bit about how Amanda came to have these babies in her care... A few months ago, she purchased a Hooded female rat from a pet store. Not long later, she noticed the rat (Gabby) seemed to be rather large in the belly. Amanda knew what this probably meant! It happens all the time with pet store rats. So, she decided to search the web for breeders and happened to stumble upon Riverside Rattery. She contacted me and asked if I could help her. At this point, she knew without a doubt Gabby was pregnant. She simply wanted me to give her information so she would be ready for the babies! Long story short, after I gave as much info. as I could Gabby went into labor and gave birth to nine babies. Amanda was quite relieved once the whole ordeal was over- she was so scared something bad would happen to her little Gabby!
So, eight weeks later, Amanda has her hands quite full with a group of active baby rats. She decided to keep the two girls that were born, but is hoping to find wonderful homes for the boys! Thus far, she has not had any luck. If you are interested, email her at amanda.hoyt57@gmail.com. She can give you lots of information on each individual, little guy!

What A Funny Looking Dude!

Double Rex rats have a very strange appearance! Lol ;-) But, they are just as nice as completely furred rats. This little guy is particularly friendly.

Play Time!

Okay, so I have a rat room. Those of you who follow my blog already know all about this, but for some people this is news. My dad and I recently built it. It's really nice- everything is so organized now.
I absolutely love having a ratty room, but I think my rats like it even more than me! They get to explore it every other day. To them, it is such a fun and exciting place! You may wonder what is so amazing about this little room- amazing to the rats, anyway. ;-) Let me give you a clue...

I bought this vent duct from Walmart the other day. Hmmm...you might be thinking this has absolutely nothing to do with rats! It does, just wait a minute...

Do you have an idea now?? Lol

You guessed right- it's for the rats! They love to play in it! It takes them only a matter of seconds to zip right through the long tube. These are the types of things that make this room such a fun place for them. ;-)

New Additions Part One

Here are two of my new baby ratties! The whole gang is doing very well. They are not quite as timid today.  It will definitely take time for them to adjust!

This gal is named Lu! She is a Himalayan w/Dumbo ears and a smooth coat. She is very gentle! I do want to breed Himis in the future. As you can see, I will need to improve the dark 'point' at the nose. Of course, they also have dark points at the tail, ears and feet. It was hard to capture the brown above her nose in this picture! :-)

This little guy is Freddy! He is a Mink Varieberk w/Dumbo ears and a Rex coat. He is a cutie pie! Thankfully, he is starting to warm up to me. :-)

Simply Adorable!

Maria's babies have changed so much over the past week! They are very active and love climbing everywhere! How does that poor mama put up with it?? Lol ;-)
Six of the babies have Double Rex coats and three have Rex coats. They are so cute at this age! One of the girls looks just like her daddy. I will defintiely have to take a picture...

Back Home...

We are back home safe and sound! The trip went well. I picked up my five baby ratties. They are doing pretty good. :-) Although somewhat scared, the little group seems to be settling in nicely.
I will post pictures of the whole gang soon. By the way, they did very well on the car ride home!

On Our Way!

We are getting close to Xenia! It has been a beautiful drive. :-) My dad has been doing the main driving. I'll have my turn on the way home!

My younger sister came along!

Five Little Ratties :-)

Well, I have some new additions arriving tomorrow. I am very excited!
I have been looking to adopt some ratties for quite some time. I really need some more breeding stock. Finding breeders near me has been difficult. Then, a few days ago, I stumbled upon one in Xenia, Ohio. I contacted the breeder and she was happy to let me adopt some of her babies. :-) So, that is where I'll be heading early tomorrow morning...

Yum!

The babies ate table food for the first time today! What an experience...
They are seventeen days old. Oh, my- they have grown so fast! It is fun to watch them. They have just started exploring the cage. I love seeing their tiny faces as they hop around. :-)

*A Quick Side Note*  There are still four baby rats available for adoption! This is one of my best litters. Just like their parents, these little munchkins are very sweet and calm. I really love them. :-)

Mr. Chubby

This little guy has a funny temporary name! It does fit, but maybe I should have named him Mr. Cute...

Like Mother, Like Daughter...

Some More iPhone Pictures!

I love my iPhone! It really takes nice pictures. It's great to have one for that reason alone when you are a busy, on-the-go sort of person- someone like me! ;-)

As you can see, Big Blue was thoroughly enjoying some watermelon!

Such a cute face. :-)
